"Amherst, Community Celebrate Completion of Habitat for Humanity Initiative"

Amherst College has a wonderful article about the Stanley Street project on their website, as well as a slide show narrated by our own Ashley Cancio-Bello. You can read the article here and view the slide show here.

Habitat for Humanity Gives Houses Away to Poor People: True or False?

False!! Habitat houses are not given away to anyone. Habitat for Humanity offers homeownership opportunities to families who are unable to obtain conventional house financing. Generally, this includes those whose income is 30 to 50 percent of the area's median income. Homeowner families make a down payment, contribute 250 to 500 hours of "sweat equity" on the construction of their home or someone else's, and assume an affordable mortgage upon closing on the home.
