Frequently asked questions about volunteering for Habitat are answered here.
Donations: of course, Habitat needs money to run. If you are able to donate, please visit our donation page.
Work on one of the active work sites! We use a volunteer management system called VolunteerUP - you must have seen the icon for it on our home page. Through this system you can reserve a date for your group (church group, fraternity, service society, etc.) or you can work as an individual.
Once you have registered as a volunteer with VolunteerUP , you may be called or emailed with a "Call to Hammer" - an invitation to work on a site and date which has openings for individuals.
Work Party Supervisors Needed! Do you like working with people? Do you have basic construction skills? We are looking for Work Party Supervisors to lead the construction effort each Saturday and Sunday at our homebuilding sites. Not ready to supervise the site? How about leading a small group under the direction of a site supervisor?
Be a Crew Leader! A crew leader's job is to manage a small group of volunteers on-site. The crew leader will be given a task that he or she is comfortable with, and will lead several volunteers in accomplishing it. This position is in addition to site supervisors, who manage the entire group of volunteers. Crew leaders help the site be productive and run smoothly. If you have any construction skills and feel comfortable managing a small group of volunteers (youth or adult) we want you as a crew leader!
If you prefer office work, there is often a need for help in the office, and that is another way to volunteer. For this also, you can schedule your work with VolunteerUP.
Pioneer Valley Habitat has an executive director, MJ Adams, but she would be lost without the work of several committees and of course the labor donated by workers. If you are interested in working on one of the committees, contact MJ at 413-586-5430 to talk about it.
Take the Habitat Bus Tour! Tours depart from the office in Florence on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month at 9 am and return promptly at 10 am. You get to visit a Habitat home, a site of construction in progress, and a future construction site. Call the office, 586-5430 ext 3, to reserve a spot on the tour, or make a reservation for one of these orientation sessions using VolunteerUP.
