Scenes from New Orleans, April 2007

One of the most interesting building sites that Habitat has in the Katarina recovery area is the Musician's Village in the Upper Ninth Ward of New Orleans.
This large area of new homes grew out of the efforts of Branford Marsalis and Harry Connick Jr. to restore the music community that is unique to New Orleans. They spearheaded a large fund-raising effort by Habitat for Humanity International.
Each home has color and flair
.
Bright colors are not unusual in the area, whatever the age of the house.
Unfortunately, many areas still look like this. In fact, one drives for miles (not blocks) through acres of derelict housing.
The good news is that groups from all over the country have come to help the Musician's Village.
Groups have even come from Western Massachusetts! Have you considered adding your efforts?
